What are Fillings?
Dental Inlays and Onlays are fillings that are alternatives to crowns. When a tooth is cracked, or an old amalgam filling is leaking or failing, an inlay or onlay is an ideal way to restore the tooth. Dentists used to have to grind teeth down to nubs and place crowns on teeth, but not anymore. At Elite Dental we prefer to keep your teeth intact and restore only the unhealthy or unstable parts of your teeth.
Inlays and Onlays are more conservative than crowns for that reason, and they don’t result in that ugly gray line at the gum.
What does the procedure involve?
Dental filling procedure starts by using local anaesthetic, so as to make the procedure pain free. After the anaesthetic is effective your dentist will prepare the tooth by removing the decay, or unsupported tooth structure or the old filling material
The tooth coloured filling material will be applied in thin layers and each increment is hardened by the light
Your dentist will then shape and polish the filling and do any bite adjustments if needed.
What materials do we use?
At Elite Dental Care we only use composite filling material for permanent fillings. And make sure the material is BPA free and mercury-free.
Other than this you also have the option for having ceramic fillings or crowns.
