What is a Dental Implant?
Dental Implants are fixed replacement of missing teeth. Surgical grade titanium screws are used as a replacement of roots of teeth, which then can support a crown or a bridge.

Who is a suitable candidate for implants?
These days with the advent of technology, any one who is missing 1 or more teeth can be a candidate for dental implants. Some people may have to go through additional procedures like bone grafting before getting the implant placement procedure.
What is bone grafting?
Some people have less amount of bone or maybe poor quality of bone, bone grafting is recommended for those people. In this procedure, we use artificial bone to augment and improve bone quantity and quality.
Are Implants Painful?
Most people explain the procedure as painless or mild discomfort. The procedure is conducted under local anaesthetic, which makes it pain-free. Mild discomfort after the surgery can be managed by over the counter pain medications.
How long does dental implants last?
Research studies have shown if the implants are placed in the good oral environment and there after regular dental hygiene visits with good home care can increase the success rate of implants to almost 98%.
On the other hand, smoking reduces the success rate of dental implants.
How does the procedure go?
Some times the implant can be placed immediately after extraction, if not, we wait for some healing after the extraction procedure before the implant can be placed. After implant placement, it needs to integrate with the bone by the process of osseointegration that naturally happens. Once that’s happened a permanent crown or bridge can be placed on the implants.
